About this role

Mental Fight Club are looking for a friendly freelance technician with a good knowledge of lighting and audio for a part-time weekly position within our unique creative wellbeing space - The Dragon Café.

Mental Fight Club's ethos is: 'To provide safe, creative spaces - real and virtual - which inspire people onwards through mental struggles of all kinds into a greater sense of their own potential, sparked by connectedness with others.' The Dragon Café is MFC’s flagship project and the embodiment of our ethos, an amazing creative space with a varied programme of creative workshops, events and performances. Opened in October 2012, The Dragon Café is the UK’s first user led creative mental health café. It is open to all, no questions asked about mental health status. The Dragon Café runs as a weekly pop up each Monday from midday until 20:30 from the crypt of St. George the Martyr Church on Borough High Street, with an affordably priced and delicious vegetarian menu, as well as a packed and varied programme of creative and wellbeing activities, events and performances, which are all provided free. We have top industry quality stage lighting and sound equipment to help us achieve the highest standard of performance, as well as to light the space.

This is an opportunity to work in an incredible, inspirational and dynamic space, helping to support people at various stages of their mental health journeys in a creative and unique way.

Hours: every Monday 09:30 - 18:00 (although there is flexibility and these hours may be extended).

Person description

We are looking for someone who has an interest in mental health issues, preferably someone who has lived experience of mental health challenges, whether through their own journey or through supporting a family member. We have two lighting desks and two sound desks which you would need to learn to use, so having a good working knowledge of lighting and audio systems is a must. Along with the rest of the Creative Delivery team you will be responsible for the safeguarding of patrons and volunteers, and keeping the space a safe and welcoming place for all who attend. We are looking for someone who is approachable and friendly and happy to work with our amazing team of volunteers.
