Blackfriars Road Jobcentre to shut down in March

The Southwark Jobcentre Plus was one of 194 of temporary centres opened in 2021 and 2022 as part of an initiative by the Department for Work & Pensions to help people back into work after the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The centre opened in September 2021 on the ground floor of 230 Blackfriars Road and its launch was marked with a visit by the then employment minister Mims Davies MP.

The temporary centre had a special focus on helping jobseekers aged 18 to 24.

Now signs have appeared on the doors of the Jobcentre announcing its imminent closure.

The sign says: "To enable us to continue to offer the best personalised service to all customers, we are making changes to our Jobcentre network of offices.

"From March 2023 this office will close and your claim will be managed by London Bridge Jobcentre Plus.

"Please continue to attend your booked appointments here, until you are told otherwise."

The London Bridge Jobcentre Plus is located in Newington Causeway near Elephant & Castle.
