Diana statue for the South Bank

A new tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales could soon be installed on the South Bank. The 10ft bronze statue is likely to be placed in Forum Magnum Square behind County Hall.

The statue shows the princess in a simple floor-length evening gown – devoid of jewellery – and wearing a broad smile.

The completed statue It is due to be placed on a low spiral plinth in Forum Magnum Square, between Belvedere Road and York Road.

Sculptor Nigel Boonham said it had taken a year to create the model and would take another 12 months to complete the real artwork.

Boonham's other work includes a statue of Cardinal Basil Hume in Newcastle

By coincidence the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund has its offices in County Hall.
