Rob Thomas broke the world record for the number of baked beans eaten in three minutes using a cocktail stick.

The new record is 159 baked beans, up from the previous best of 152 achieved in Jamaica.

Simon Hughes MP was on hand to witness the record attempt at Haddon Hall Baptist Church in Tower Bridge Road on Saturday night.

The Bermondsey & Old Southwark MP revealed that he had once been the holder of a Guinness world record by taking part in the longest continuous croquet match.

Saturday night's event also featured performances by local musician Nigel of Bermondsey.
