The Fort in Grange Road to be demolished 'to keep squatters out'

Squatters were evicted from the building last month.

Now the owners have told Southwark Council they intend to flatten the site "in order to prevent the continued use of the building by squatters".

A fire broke out in the building in July 2013.

Southwark Council refused planning permission for a new block of six flats on the site of the former pub which was most recently used as a gay club.

Planing officers ruled that the proposed scheme "would represent an oppressive form of development that would result in an increased sense of enclosure detrimental to the residential amenities of the adjoining occupiers".
