ASK, and ye shall not receive for a very long time
OK, the good: the food. The pizzas. The location, the terrace, the views, the decent value for money (even before the two-for-one vouchers).
The bad: have been there a few times recently; last time was on Thursday night. The service was mind-bendingly slow: our simple order of pasta mains for 3 people took an hour and a half to arrive. After about an hour the poor waiter brought us a pizza (on the house) to tide us over. Couldn't really get straight what the problem was: a kitchen issue? A request to speak with the manager was ignored. We were literally on the way out (having decided at 9.30 or so that we would just pay for the wine and pizza and leave it at that) when our dinner came from the kitchen.
My husband had been there a few nights earlier and mentioned that the service had been a bit slow on that evening as well.
Don't know what the problem is (or was) but hope it is resolved soon!
Still great
Been a couple of years since my last review of Ask. Went there today with other members of the SE1 lunch club. We sat outside with splendid views of Tower Bridge: you cannot reserve an outside table, it's first-come first-served - so book, get there early, and request to sit outside.

The food, as ever, was really good. I had a pizza, which was excellent as usual. Other members had pasta, which they said was very good. Only grumble: one of the team did not get all of the toppings on her food that should have been there. The manager promised to make it up to us next time.

Anyway, I think it is the best place to eat along the pretentious river side of Shad Thames and is still my fave Italian in the area.

Pizza delight
I generally dislike chains to eat/drink at. Ask on the river has something very un-chainy about it. Always friendly service, really good pizzas and a wonderful view. A great budget option in the area.
Coco Grill & Lounge
Have to disagree with the previous review - this place is not a normal run-of-the-mill pizza joint.

It's set in a fabulous location, and I always find the meals to be excellent and rate them at the top end of the Italian cuisine scale.

Staff are well dressed, attentive but not intrusive.

They do great Italian red wines with your meal.

Recommended.

What you'd expect from Ask...
Nothing special here - it's Ask Pizza after all. There's nice river-walk fronting decked space, which is good in summer. Inside was renovated late summer 2006, so it's quite acceptable. Food doesn't really need a review - you know what you're getting from this chain - part of the Pizza Express and Zizzi restaurant group.
