Excellent place for lunch
I have been drinking in The Marigold on Bermondsey Street for a number of years. It's a great place for a pint or two in the evening but a recent lunch there was lovely. We both had fish and chips - the freshly battered fillets of haddock and a decent portion of chips for about a fiver were excellent. They do a very good steak and chips as well, again at very reasonable prices. I know they're doing weekly specials as well now which we will definitely be trying! A friendly little place which I thoroughly recommend - especially as an antidote to the pricy "gastro" pubs which are slowly taking over the whole area!
Great pub, great food, great evening!
Ive lived in bermonsey all my life n most of the good old pubs are tryin to turn into bars. the marigold, although completely refurbished, has maintained its fantastic pub-like feel. Its bar staff are friendly and welcoming, especially Julie who served me on my visit, she definatly made my evening all the more specialy.
Nice place
I had a day off work and popped in for a pint. I liked the place straight away as it had loads of locals around the bar and no tourists. Had a couple of pints of Webster's - very nice. Friendly staff and great banter around the bar. I did a toilet inspection - very clean, looks brand new. No loud music to be heard either, chatting and socialising is the order of the day. So, all in all a great local pub with great beer and friendly atmosphere.
All Change at The Marigold?
Landlady Eileen and son Kevin are currently having the place done up. They want to emphasise the original features of what is a good local, while trying to attract some new customers (need I say more?). Rumour has it they may even install a real ale pump. Food at luchtime, good, basic and cheap.
