Volunteer Shopper

What days: Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
How many hours: 4 hours/day, morning only up to 12 noon
Preferred Commitment: 3 months or longer
Where: Southwark, Lewisham and Lambeth from 2 supermarkets in Bermondsey

Purpose of this Role: Work in a team in the supermarket completing customer orders,
checking completed orders and processing through the check-out.
Main Activities/Tasks:
• Using customers' shopping lists, make up their orders into boxes in the supermarket
• Make sensible decisions where alternative products must be found
• Check other volunteers' boxes against the customer's shopping list
• Organise customer shopping into boxes of manageable weights
• Steer shopping orders through the checkout, repacking each order into its boxes

We are looking for someone with
• Enthusiasm to make a difference to older people
• Reasonable written English to follow a shopping list
• Attention to detail to select and check preferred brands and package sizes
• Ability to complete shopping quickly and efficiently
• Awareness to select for quality, shelf-life and prevent damage or deterioration to items in store
• Team skills to work with other volunteers in a public space

Food2You is an exciting new shopping delivery service, supporting older people at risk of
malnutrition to live more healthy, independent and dignified lives. It will be run by Age UK
Lewisham & Southwark (AUKLS), with a team of enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers at the
heart of the project.
