This piece by Max Hastings is worth a read for the local social history:

It's about former Southwark councillor Kate Clunn - now 86 and living on the Aylesbury Estate - and has a lot about her childhood in the Blackfriars Road area - including references to The Cut, Hope Mission (now Jeff's Cafe) in Webber Street and the obelisk at St George's Circus.

Well what a surprise. It pretends to be a heart-warming article about a lovely old lady then at the end gets a dig in about left-wingers and manages to do what the poisonous **** at the Daily Mail always do and make it about immigration. I'm very disappointed.
