I just got a monthly newsletter from Better Bankside, and there was mention of:
"Borough High Street mains replacement works drop-in session".

It seems Thames Water & Southern Gas are going to be digging up Borough High street for the next 37 weeks, starting on 21st Sept....sigh.

here's a link to the drop in session if anyone is interested:

Worth adding - as we mentioned in our autumn roadworks roundup - that the C10 bus (westbound only) will be diverted via Bricklayers Arms and Great Dover Street during this work - and therefore won't serve Long Lane.

This is what TFL sent me on the C10

Due to works on Borough High Street, SE1, from Monday 21 September to Monday 23 November route C10 will be diverted while mains water replacement works are progressed at the junction with Dover Street. The junction of Long Lane with Great Dover Street will be closed and four-way temporary traffic lights are being installed to control traffic.

The diversion implemented is planned to proceed as follows:

Buses towards Canada Water: from Borough High Street at Great Dover Street, ahead Borough High Street, right Tabard Street and left Long Lane to normal route.

Buses towards Victoria from Abbey Street: turn left Tower Bridge Road, Bricklayers Arms roundabout and Great Dover Street, ahead to normal route.

Please note, however, that buses towards Victoria will not serve stops at Tennis Street and Staple Street on Long Lane. Otherwise, drivers on route C10 must serve all stops on the route of the diversion when requested.

it will be Chaos what with Tooley Street being shut and New Kent Road being resurfaced

Unfortunate choice of name on their part, don't you think.

Be careful out there...

...if you press it, they will come.

BHS will be closed southbound at the Southwark Street junction from the end of November till June 2010 - diversion via Southwark Street, Southwark Bridge Road and Marshalsea Road.

One really gets the feeling that there is an intention to deliberately deter everyone from even thinking of travelling by bus or car in SE1. We have had Thames Water digging up wherever they want without a care for anyone, the Shard construction has closed St Thomas St one way, work on railway tunnels and Tooley St, etc. With all that disruption you only need a single extra road closure due to a major accident, flooding or public event and the whole area cannot function at all.
