After talking through the detailed architectural drawings with the architect Jason Flanagan on site on Thursday (in the rain!) I've requested, over the weekend, pdf copies from 'Dr Paul Harvey, Consultant' who's replied this morning with confirmation that my request has been redirected to his clients Crest Nicholson and Addition Land.
And in case there's any confusion -- not least with the site being next door to Guy's! -- I can confirm that Paul's doctorate is in Politics and that he's working as a consultant for community engagement specialists Curtin & Co. Although yes I did have to ask, and then wonder whether Oxford Street-based C & C really are the people for the job!
On first impressions -- on the basis of the 'Dear Residents' letter we'd received nine days earlier (myself as a flat-owner of Snowsfields north side, first arrived 1982!) -- my instinct would be to say 'no', an 'open-mind' having been promptly shut-down but the various inaccuracies, evidence of 'ignorance', and omissions not least of a site address and any details of the architects etc that defined this their invitation to consult and be consulted.
But I do want to stay engage with and by the process so must forgive!
Most importantly I would want to find out what the most immediate neighbours, Alex Monroe as well as Michael Davis and Andrew Logan, think, not least due to the fact of the latter being very long-standing Melior Street residents who's made a significant investment in this community i, so many ways, all three in fact having bought considerable design-savvy and kudos to our neighbourhood as acclaimed designers and architects.
What the conservation area really doesn't want -- with respect to those who have made the site their home -- is another 'builder-led and investor-inspired' development of extremely poor quality build and negligible if any design merit or sensitivity/relationship to its physical surroundings and the existing community, as is so conspicuously the case with 1-6 Melior Street on that key site at the corner with Weston Street.
Eleni, I'd be happy for you to contact me at [email protected] if you'd like to talk through any of this in person.
There is a another meeting with Crest Nicholson and Curtin & Co TONIGHT at 6.30pm in a Room in the old London Bridge Academy/City Banking College Melior St. This has been set up at the request of the Guinness Trust residents on Snowfields.
