I had intended to go to a meeting this evening about the Neighbourhood Plan. Apprently it was going to be a 'watershed meeting' at which either the St Thomas St Plan (coordinated by BVAG) or the Bermondsey Neighbourhood Forum (BNF) would be selected as the preferred applicant for designation, with the other (losing) group then being formally wound up by its members. It seemed that after years after painful and protracted discussions, this once 'vanguard' project might have made some substantive progress. A great pity then that an email has been sent out by BNF, saying that they would be taking no part in the meeting tonight. Instead that the BNF "Steering Group will be meeting later in November to decide how it wants to move forward and the future of the BNF" - so much for localism and actually a wider group of residents it would seem.

I think we can safely say that the twin concepts of 'Localism' and the 'Big Society' are now thoroughly discredited.

The BVAG application for designation has fallen on its face and the decision (awaiting sign-off by Cllr Williams) is that it be refused. A victory for common sense.
