Interesting to see the SE1 news story about the TAB losing its licence due to violent episodes and inability of management to abide by licence conditions. Wonder whether it will be reopened as a proper pub rather than some poorly run nightclub. Also interested to see that their Twitter page uses the ubiquitous "Closed for refurbishment"

Yes,unbelievable that the pub management didn't call the emergency service and refused entry to the police after a member of the public called them!
Here's hoping it turns into a proper, nice pub now.

Hioefully the new owners will get rid of that horrible sticky decor on the outside!

Thought the claim of Muhammad Ali being there was a bit far fetched, but a quick google bought this up

Looks like the estate agent are pushing it as a residential conversion.

Oh no..thought it would be safe. The council could help struggling pub trade by reducing rates for a couple of years, and eliminating music licences etc.

Very likely. The upper floors of Fire Station have already gone that way and Blue Mantle are squished into the ground floor already.

I hope they don't undo all this good work:

As many of you will know the freehold for the Thomas A Becket Pub is being auctioned on 22 June.

The Walworth Society, supported by local councillors is looking to put in an application for it to be listed as an Asset of Community Value.

At the very least, we would like to see that there is a still a pub at the ground floor level in any redevelopment.

To help support the application the Walworth Society are collecting people's stories about the 'cultural, social adn recreational' usage of the pub over the last 5 years.

If anyone has any stories they would like to share to help support the application, it would be greatly appreciated.

You can email them straight to Jeremy Leach ([email protected]) at the Walworth Society, or is you post them on here, I am happy to collect them all together.

With the tight timeline, we need them by the end of the weekend.
