MTrying to be respectful of the victim's privacy but wanted to alert the community to an assault at about 12:15pm today on Pilgrimage Street across from the convenience store.

An elderly lady was attacked from behind, punched on the side of the face and knocked to the ground. After this, the attacker ran off. Nothing was stolen. Thankfully she was only bruised and shaken up.

Has anyone heard of similar attacks? Just horrific on so many levels.

I only caught the end of a commotion in Riley Road last week but I believe there was a similar situation there with a younger woman. We all need to be on the look-out for these morons. Hope she's ok.

Never heard of assaulting elderly people just for the thrill of it, evil bastard. Unless he saw someone coming before he could steal from her.? Let's hope the poor old soul don't stop venturing outside because this scum. Any cctv around there?

Just despicable - we thought perhaps he'd intended to rob her but then potential witnesses came by. The poor dear was on her way to visit her son for lunch.
