Hi everyone,

We recently moved in the area and have adopted a little 10 weeks old puppy. He seems quite distressed when we leave him to go to work. He has a walker coming to spend an hour with him at lunch time but he still cries the rest of the day when he's alone.

We're looking to put him in Day Care, or with a petsitter . Do you any one who offers this service? Or anyone with a lot of free time looking to have puppy company all day?

I know that this question has been asked before but the threads are quite old so I thought I would ask again.

Where are you based in SE1? What breed? Are you looking to socialise him with other dogs?

10 weeks is still really young, how long is he alone? It's a big change for him. There are some great people around Bermondsey Street, or you could visit Holly and Lil for some advice and contacts.

Highly recommend "Puss n Pooch"

Have used many many times. Excellent service, friendly, professional and very knowledgeable in all things relating to dogs. Also provides dog training. Very competitive prices too.

Thank you for the replies and suggestions, I will check those out!

He is only alone 3 hours at a time with a one hour break in the middle when our current walker comes and plays with him. We are definitely looking to socialize him with other dogs, but he has only had his first round of vaccinations so can't really make canine friends for now unfortunately.

He is a Yorkie Maltese cross, so quite a small dog. We are based near Spa Gardens and the big Tesco on Old Kent Road.

Has he had his full injections yet? 10 weeks is very young to be going out and mixing with other dogs, it's usually at least 12 weeks.

Holly and Lil run a day care service from their shop so they are probably your best bet, if they can't help they will know someone who can.

If this is the first dog you have had the crying is normal and it will stop so don't worry however dogs are social creatures and being alone for 6 hrs a day or longer with delays is not great and can lead to behavioural issues.

Day sitting can range from 20 - 25 and the best website for this is dogbuddy which gives you a map based image of all the sitters / walkers etc in the local area with pricing.

Another option is borrowmydoggy - this site is for people who don't own dogs / can't have them due to living in a flat etc and want to spend time for free so you both benefit. The idea of giving your dog to someone like this seems a little untrusting but its a well known website and if you think about it logically in you do the same with a walker except you pay them.

In the interim / future although the dog is young, kong toys to work for food, radio on and lots of other toys to keep occupied.
