Dear all, we're a group of parents setting up an advocacy & campaigning group for North Southwark, meaning Borough, Elephant, down to Camberwell. Can be wider if there's interest.
The reason? We've seen a loss of family amenities with the loss of Newington Library, the Cuming Museum, Burgess Park Adventure Playground. Much of the new development places an emphasis on young singletons who tend to be high spenders and also able to afford higher rents (shared flats with more incomes and fewer responsibilities).
However, the area has good schools (including a new secondary on the way) and green spaces and remains a great place for children to grow up. We believe areas benefit from a mixed population and would like to advocate for families in planning and to protect what amenities we have.
I’m a single person, albeit more mature than the young people of whom you speak. I agree with you wholeheartedly. A social im Balance is being created and needs addressing before it goes too far. I shall sign up.
