I first went to Boot & Flogger for lunch to mark a colleague’s 55th birthday in 1997 or 1998. He had recently returned to London having lived in the North East. He had fond memories of the place from his early days as a barrister in London. He remarked to the manager that he’d had a hell of a time finding it again as he had been sure it was on Borough High St. the manager roared with laughter that it had been at least 25 years since his last visit as they’d moved lock, stock and barrel around the corner to Redcross Way in the early 70s and tried as best as possible to recreate it as an exact replica of the original.
I’ve had numerous lunches there- often in the private room. I can remember one occasion spent drinking Chateau Montrose (at least a bottle a head). They’d had it so long and not substantially updated the price - the retail cost in BBR was substantially more than Mr Davy’s On premise price.
