Anyone know where I can buy shark or swordfish steaks locally, or within reasonable distance? I don't really want to go to Billingsgate at the crack of dawn.

There is a Chinese grocer on East St. It's on the right hand side about a third of the way down, coming from Walworth Rd.

I was in there yesterday and its fishmongery bit (fresh and frozen) was very busy. I don't know for sure that they stock what you want but I imagine it's a good place to try.

Good luck.

Why would you want to buy shark steaks, they are endangered.

Most fish & chips restaurants serve rock salmon without drawing crowds of protesters outside their entrance.

Are they all endangered? Bit of a trek but sainsburys in pimlico has a good fishmongers bit. Or of course Borough market has an excellent stall. Last time I bought scallops from there I asked the bloke where they were from and he replied "These? The bottom of the sea mate"

The fish counter at OKR Tesco is no more, buying fish at BM is a bit expensive. Might be the reason the Chinese shop on East Street was busy.

I know skate is endangered. Would love a piece of rock salmon. Up her in Derbyshire its only Hake and cod...

Or you could just not eat them at all and leave them alone.

Yeah sure, and let someone else eat them.
Many moons ago, I was visiting a N.Y. friend, and her boyfriend took us to a restaurant in Montauk, Long Island, where he urged me try maui-maui.
I trusted his judgement, and ordered it, with rice and peppers.
When it arrived, I asked the waitress what it was, she told me that it was dolphin.
I felt bad, until I tried it, it was succulent.
My friend said, ďyou okay there Deb? thatís Flipper!
I said, ďI donít care if itís Flippers kid sister, itís great.Ē
Couple of years later, I was back for her bachelorette party.
This time we ate in a restaurant in Manhattan, which specialised in way out wild animal dishes, I had lion liver, well for all I know, it could have been tiger or leopard liver, but I enjoyed it.
