I've got a load of boxes and other rubbish, the result of a recent house move to SE1, which I need to get rid of. Is there a rubbish tip/recycling place nearby? I'm on Alma Grove.

Call the council (7525 2000 - ask about bulk refuse collection) and they will pick stuff up for free, usually within a couple of days. I've no idea if the stuff they pick up is just dumped or is sorted and recycled at all. Alternatively, there is a "re-use and recyling centre" on Walworth Road.

The environmental services bit of the Southwark website has more info:

You could try freecycle -

I gave away the boxes from my house move recently using freecycle, to someone else about to move house, very pleasing...

Well I'll have some boxes from Saturday if anyone's interested......
