Someone mentioned to me that they saw the freehold of the old Arpino Gibbs building, now the Fashion Museum residential development, offered for sale in the Estates Gazette.

Is there any truth in this?

"Fashion Museum is under threat.
Fashion designer Zandra Rhodes' Fashion and Textile Museum in London is thought to be up for sale, after remaining closed to the public since February.

Industry sources and local estate agents say they believe the building is on the market, although a spokesman for the museum declined to comment, saying only that the building 'has not currently been sold'." End of quote.

Although the museum element of the building may be up for sale, it only comprises a small part of the whole building, the rest being mainly a residential development. The sale of the museum element might open the way for another Bermondsey St eatery.

And now it's been sold to Newham College:

What brilliant news.

There had been talk of Acorn tabling an offer for it to be turned into yet more commercial/residential space.

This is the type of venture that brings more of the right people into the area.

Absolutely right, good news.

It would be interesting to know exactly what Newham College has 'bought'. The 'museum' was only ever a small component of the building and this 'purchase' is probably nothing more than Newham College taking some floorspace off Zandra's hands. Maybe they'll actually do something credible with it. Will they find any space for Zandra's collection of old frocks?

Regards to all.

That is, as said above, the freehold on the entire building, residential units included. Isnt it?

Even if the museum was not utilizing the entire building, its owners seem to have the freehold on the entire thing.
