I'd like to work out whether there are any places locally that deliver sushi to the SE17 area - I think Yo Sushi county hall do, but their sushi is only so-so. Feng Sushi won't deliver, but I could collect. Has anyone tried Demaezushi on Holyrood Street, just off Bermondsey Street?http://www.demaezushi.co.uk/index.html If anyone has any opinions or recommendations they'd be greatly appreciated!
Demaezushi is a little ropey...tuna sashimi seemed to be frozen when I ordered. Owned by the same people as Cucina and also subject to the vagaries of their delivery times.
Sashimi tuna is never eaten fresh, even in Japan. I know because I work for a Japanese company which handles catching and imports of marine products. The best quality tuna has to be kept at - 60 degrees C in special freezers. The problem is that those freezers are very expensive and only a couple of British wholesalers have them. So most restaurants in the UK keep their tuna at -18 C and as a result, it oxidizes and the quality degrades. I went to the Tokyo fish market (the biggest in the world) where you can see the tuna auctions, it's very impressive to see those huge frozen fish being sawn into slices...
Feng Sushi are brilliant, although a couple of times they've been mega busy and I've had to wait ages, however the food is very fresh and tasty. The deluxe bento box with crabcakes is particularly good.
I notice that the Powerstation Cafe in Hopton Street is turning into powersushi.com - not sure if it's operational yet as they had work going on there today.
