Does anybody here knows whether the antique market will open on next Friday ( Good Friday,13th of April) since I am living in Reading, Berks, and don't want to waste my time to get there if it's not open that day. Thanks for your help. Sheng [email protected]

I Have been surfing the net today and was pleased to see the page on SE1, as I was born in 42a Snowsfields some 64 years ago,
we had friends who used to have a stall in Towerbridge Road, their name was Archer they usually were outside the pie and mash shop. Is this where the Bermondsey markets are? Can anyone tell me if Credon Road School is still going?

Yes, there's bits & pieces of market stalls at that point... but the old Trocette Cinema just across the road has been turned into flats.
The Bermondsey Market everyone comes to see is actually antiques, transferred from the other side of the Thames some time ago. Lively, but like antiques markets worldwide, caveat emptor.

Haven't heard of Credon Rd School, tho' one still appears on the AtoZ map.

Thanks Jim

Credon Road School was off Ilderton Road, off Rotherhithe New Road. It was a Secondary Modern as they called them then.

The Junior School I went to was Gallywall Road.

As I said I was born in Snowsfields, then evacuated to Wales in 1941, returning to live in Southwark Park Road in 1945.

Although it is great to be in Australia I still have a very warm for place of my childhood and youth.

Thanks once Again

I also attended Credon secondary school and just saw your post, I have been trying to find out what happened to Credon school, which incidentally was a mixed school with the girls playground on the roof area, I'd heard that the school had become Scott lidgett college relocated just off St James road- near Peek Freans, Bermondsey , then was used by the old vic theatre? It is about to be demolished as we speak, and luxury apartments are being built on the site... anyway apart from my brother, who by the way lives in Australia, off Brisbane- Russell Island, your the only other ex pupil I've found, my time there was back in 1955-59. Cheers..

Hello PeteFred2. You must have been at Credon school at same time as me.
The school is now a housing complex and no longer exists. The girls were moved out from the upper playground and moved into Peckham Girls school.
Did you go to the bombed out part of the school near the docks? I did and was moved down to Credon Road main school after the girls were moved out.

Do the names Higgins, Johns, Bulldog, McArthy, Shetland, Hill and
Courtney (Headmaster), bring back any memories?

Would be nice to hear your stories. Bernard Calver

Hi, I am an Architecture student working on an Urban Studies dissertation on Bankside's redevelopment since 1945. I was wondering whether you could, please, give any information on the history, and political affects, of the site from 1945 until today. Thank you very much Anna
