Bob Skelly to be next Mayor of Southwark
Thursday 3 May 2007 London SE1 website team

if you click on the links in the above article you find Bob Skelly has 9 mentions in SE1 news articles and 1 forum mention.
Mackie Sheik has 3 news (including above article) and no forum mentions.

The outgoing Mayor Paul Kyriacou wasn't mentioned even once on the SE1 forum during his tenure and only made the news 8 times (excluding above article).

You would have thought the Mayor at least would have merited discussion in the SE1 forum at least once during the last year.

is this because the position of mayor is merely ceremonial? Does the mayor have any real powers beyond cutting ribbons and representing the borough?

Bob Skelly is one of our local councillors and has always been very good and helpful when i have dealt with him so i hope that such a position whilst no doubt being a great honour for him will not detract from his ward work

Agree dee dee, but even his ribbon cutting technique wasn't complimented once.
I'm surprised Simon Hughes didn't go for the job!!!!
Don't answer that.

the mayor is a one year junket for the backbenchers with less power than HM, ie it's just the ribbons and a choice of handbag. you do get the mayoral parlour, a limo and a souvenir chain of office to remember it by though ...
