Looking for a nice bar for a drink and a chat with a mate after work next week. Been to the Kitchen which is nice enough but always struggle for a seat after work... Any ideas??? Needs to be walking distance from Waterloo ideally...
The Wellington? opposite The Firestation on Waterloo Rd. is ok and round the corner from there on Cornwall road is the White Hart? or something like that which is a bit nicer with outside seats too - both good for pint and a chat. You can also go down Lower Marsh Road, you have a trendier red 'bar' on the left (when coming from Waterloo Rd), can't think of it's name - Red Square or something probably, which I think is pretty cool and perfect for a just a couple of pints and further down you have another Elusive Camel place on the right (but that can busy) and you mightn't get a seat if you wanted one.
The Cornwall Rd pub is the White Hart and is very good and ususally not too full. Also the Kings Arms on Roupell St, but can get very full, as can the Windwill on the Cut. Stage Door on Weber St near the Old Vic is good. On Lower Marsh The Ruby Lounge about halfway down on the south side is a bit trendier. Elusive Camel also on Lower Marsh has an upstairs which my not be too full if you get there early enough. If you wnat to be a bit cultural try the Royal Festival Hall's bar.
The Ring: Great Sunday lunches, terrible soft rock music with the odd phil collins thrown in, traffic too loud outside.
The Windmill: Nice thai food when you can get a table, to be avoided if the football is on (unless you like shouting at each other over the din), quite a local pub and a good atmosphere The Wellington : Awful food, decent enough pub with strange accidental tourist types, no particular atmosphere to speak of.
Meson Don Felipe : I wish this would open up and look outwards - they may have been a time when the closed interior would have been preferable but it feels claustraphobic now.
