Just been into SoBo and ordered a 'panino' only to have it corrected to 'panini'. I'd not thought about it much but I realised that I'd have felt silly saying ' panini'. It feels like asking for a bananas. Now I'm not so sure. I don't speak Italian (apart from the usual 'refugio anti-atomico') so I may have to give up panini altogether. Can anyone help?

I have an Italian friend who has corrected me to say 'panino' singular before now. Panini is plural indeed... Plural of pedant? I think that would count as a 'forum of pedants' ;-) TFIC

I think the singular and plural of Panini depends whether you are speaking Italian or whether you are speaking South London deli English. Anyway isn't the plural of banana banana's?
