Thank you to suenow who will be working out the rota for 2014.

If you enjoy cooking and like meeting new people you may want to consider joining the SE1 Come dine with us group. For a few years now we have been meeting in each others homes approximately once a month usually on a Friday or Saturday to enjoy good food, wine and company.
Over time the group has grown and changed, with some people leaving and new faces joining so it continues to be a brilliant way of meeting new people as well as meeting up with old friends.

We meet in groups of six (which change so it is not the same group of six people each month) and take it in turns to host a dinner party or contribute, either one of the courses or the accompanying wine to a course. As we all contribute to the meal, it has the fabulous advantage of spreading both the cost and the work involved making it a great credit crunching social activity.

It is open for anyone who lives in SE1 and it would be lovely to have some new people join the group again this time. We work out the groups on a 6 month rota so each person gets to do each thing once but don't worry if you are new you will not be asked to host a group straight away. The host will try to arrange a date for each dinner party to suit everyone at that meal but if you can not make it one month there is usually a reserve willing to step in, in your place.

The next round of dinners for the SE1 come dine with us group will start in Feb or March. If you are interested then PM me or suenow with your email address and we will send you more details.

The Come Dine with Me group has been a great way to meet new people in SE1. Paul and I very much enjoyed our 1st year in the group in 2013, and look forward to meeting existing and new people in 2014 !!

The Gourmets kicked off with our first dinner of 2014 last night but what a night! Thanks to all for making the dinner party such a success. We kicked off the evening with Nigella's party popcorn and L'Impertinente Rose Brut 2009 champagne from Louise Brison.

Starter: Chilled avocado soup
Wine: Sauvignon 2011 by Virgile Joly

Main: Corsican beef stew, roast new potatoes, green beans & carrots. Other: Asian sticky salmon
Wine: Cot (Malbec) 2011 by Perez Cruz & Chardonnay 2012 by La Closerie des Lys

Dessert: Gateaux aux fruits (from a French patisserie!)
Wine: Chenin Blanc 2003 by Chateau de Fesles & Les Varennes 2002 by Domaine Cady

Sorry, I forgot to mention the cheese board! I bought a selection of cheeses, including Cornish Yarg, Brie de Meaux, goats cheese & Comte, from the butchers in the Blue, Bells & Sons, while I was buying the beef. This meant we had 4 courses at the Gourmets dinner party last night.

It was definitely a lovely evening with delicious food and wine. My first time at a 'come dine' SE1 dinner and I was made to feel very welcome.

The cookies met last Saturday night to enjoy a very warm and sunny evening in June.

The evening kicked off with chilled prosecco on the balcony served with smoked salmon blinis and seafood cocktail shells.

Roasted stuffed red, green and yellow peppers.

Main Course:
Slow cooked Catalan lamb stew in garlic served with crispy lemon potatoes and Aioli sauce.

Home made strawberry Ice-cream and chocolate Mousse Cake
