Asian supermarket Tian Tian Market plans South Bank store
Asian supermarket chain Tian Tian Market is planning to open its first store south of the river at the South Bank Central development in Stamford Street.
Tian Tian Market has applied for a premises licence for the unit at the corner of Stamford Street and Hatfields which has been empty since the redevelopment of the King's Reach Tower in the middle of the last decade.
The chain currently has six stores in London, all north of the Thames. The firm describes itself as bringing "modern East Asian and South-East Asian culture and living to London, by creating an 'everyday lifestyle one-stop shop'".
The company's licence application acknowledges that the proposed store is in the Borough & Bankside cumulative impact zone where applicants must prove that they won't add to existing alcohol-related problems.
The applicant notes that "... sales will not be alcohol led and a condition has been proffered to ensure that the premises cannot become a conventional off-licence, namely that no more than 15 per cent of the sales area shall be used at any one time for the sale, exposure, or display of alcohol".
