HMS Belfast sounded a 13-gun salute on Thursday as part of an event to launch the plans for next year's celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
An actor playing the admiral sailed along the Thames – under Tower Bridge which was raised for the occasion – to Somerset House to unveil the programme.
On 16 September 2005 there is to be a recreation of Nelson's waterborne funeral procession from Greenwich to Whitehall.
It will assemble the largest flotilla on the Thames in modern times including traditional Thames craft, Dunkirk little ships, barges, and HMS Victory's cutter.
