Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has claimed that photographs were taken on a mobile phone as a gang attacked David Morley on the South Bank a fortnight ago.
The Mayor's claims, made at a public meeting in West London, were reported in the Evening Standard.
The camera phone and pictures are now in the hands of police, according to the Mayor..
The Mayor also spoke of his plans to tackle homophobia in London schools: "Broadly, London is a very tolerant city. There is much less racism, much less sexism than other great cities around the world. When you go into our schools and colleges there is very little overt racism and sexism. There is completely open and rampant homophobia."
