The SE1 postal area could be abolished as part of an overhaul of the mail delivery system by Consignia.
Weekend media reports suggest that Consignia is looking at a new system where postcodes would no longer be attached to adresses but to people.
Lorna Clarkson, Consignia's director of innovation, says: "It would enable people to have one postcode for their whole life, wherever they moved, and the post would be sent to each person rather than to their address, not unlike a Hotmail email address."
SE1 is one of the 2,869 postal districts in the UK. London's larger postal areas were divided into numbered districts in 1916.
If the plan goes ahead, this website might need a new name...
