Walk Southwark aims to promote walking as a viable means of transport for short journeys and as a healthy, free and enjoyable way to get around the capital.
A new Walk Southwark website allows users to search for local walks and related events and find out more about what the council is doing to make getting around the borough on foot easier.
"We are proud to promote walking as a healthy and easy alternative to other polluting modes of transport," says Cllr Lisa Rajan, executive member for transport. "It's a pleasant and environmentally friendly way to see the borough from a different perspective as well as getting from A to B.
"Walking to work, to the train or tube station or to the shops instead of jumping in the car is a more sustainable way of getting around, and is an enjoyable and simple way to keep fit."
