A new website enables visitors to redesign Borough High Street and make their own decisions about traffic management and street furniture.
Visitors to Walk2go.com can design their own 3D version of Borough High Street online and consequently develop a better understanding of the image urban design decisions can have on traffic and pedestrians.
The other key feature of Walk2go.com is a local walks map designed to promote walking in Bankside. Visitors are invited to submit walking routes – both time-saving shortcuts and leisurely cultural strolls – and link short videos and images to these walks along with a written commentary.
The work forms part of Southwark Council's EU-funded Optimum II project and has been delivered in partnership with Better Bankside and Upper Ground-based Steer Davies Gleave.
Walk2go – which went live this week – was launched at a joint event in Borough Market last week which also marked the relaunch of the Better Bankside website.
"The new websites will be a great boost to our ongoing work improving sustainable and environmentally-friendly travel options, such as walking, for everyone living or working in Southwark," says Cllr Lisa Rajan, the borough's executive member for environment and transport.
