More than 150 people attended Volunteer Centre Southwark’s first Southwark Stars awards ceremony at Glaziers Hall near London Bridge.
"As volunteers you will know how you make the people you help feel special and appreciated," the Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Paul Kyriacou, told the assembled guests.
"Tonight we want you to feel that way and this evening is all about recognising and celebrating your achievements".
The Mayor presented certificates to seventy 'Southwark Stars', all of whom have completed more than 100 hours of volunteering in Southwark in the past 12 months. There were also seven Special Award winners, singled out for their commitment and excellence in volunteering.
Clive Pankhurst, volunteer services manager at Volunteer Centre Southwark said: "This was an amazing night for us as it was great to see so many volunteers who are making a real difference to communities in Southwark".
There will be more opportunities to nominate deserving volunteers for Southwark Stars awards from March next year.
