Local residents and workers in Waterloo weren't put off by the heavy rain and strong winds from turning up for the switching on of the Christmas lights.
The ceremony was performed by the stars of the Young Vic's Christmas show, The Enchanted Pig. Carol singing around the tree in Emma Cons Gardens was led by a choir from Morley College.
A countdown was led by Bishop's ward councillor Diana Braithwaite.
The switching on of the Christmas lights along The Cut and Lower Marsh was just part of a day of festive events organised by the Waterloo Quarter Business Alliance.
The programme included a Christmas market in Lower Marsh, live music, tree-dressing on Waterloo Millennium Green and workshops for children at the Young Vic.
