Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa at BFI IMAX

Fergal Hanks

Starting off where the original film ended (after a brief detour to explain how Alex the lion ended up in New York Zoo), the sequel details the four friends and the SAS penguins attempt to get back to New York from Madagascar.

They depart courtesy of Air Penguin (by way of Heath Robinson) but find themselves crash landing in Africa. This is where the film really starts.

The plot jumps around without going anywhere very much borrowing from, amongst other sources, the Lion King.

This sequel is a bit more romantic and serious than its predecessor but is still as funny. The IMAX screen brings out the little details that the movie has in buckets.

This film is a worthy successor to the first one and is aimed at the same age group and the IMAX still delivers with its huge screen; surround sound and superb sweets.
