A London Fire Brigade search and rescue truck ploughed through railings at the southern end of Waterloo Bridge and overturned on Thursday morning.
The truck, based at Battersea fire station, was on its way to an incident in the Rotherhithe Tunnel when the accident happened at around 9am between the Schiller International University building and the BFI IMAX cinema.
The driver was the only person on board the vehicle. He was taken to St Thomas' Hospital but is not thought to be seriously injured.
Waterloo Bridge was closed to southbound traffic whilst the clear-up operation was under way.
