The star Surrey player brought along two cricket coaches to help organise the master class in the playground of the Tower Bridge Road school.

New playground cricket markings at the school have been provided by Surrey County Cricket Club sponsor Brit Insurance. From 2010 insurance company will also be the principal team sponsor of England Cricket.

"I just played cricket because I enjoyed it," said Mark Ramprakash when asked why how he started his cricket career. "Playing the game was fun. I started with my friends, my dad and joined a local club."

Pupils also asked how as a top cricketer he managed to find time to take part in and win the Strictly Come Dancing television contest. He explained that the main cricket training month was March and that much of the filming took place during October to December immediately after the close of the home sporting season.

"I enjoyed it. It's good fun. Cricket and dancing are good hobbies."
