Wenceslaus Hollar's 1647 panorama of the City of London seen from the tower of what is now Southwark Cathedral has been released as an iPhone and iPad app.
The free London 1647 application is a proof-of-concept built using the MobileXpeditions platform.
The panoramic image of London displays the City and Bankside in the mid-17th century, just before the the plague and the Great Fire of London.
Features depicted in Hollar's image – including old London Bridge, Winchester Palace and Bankside's bear-baiting arenas – are linked to their Wikipedia articles.
Wenceslaus Hollar is buried in St Margaret's Westminster and is commemorated with a memorial tablet in the nave of Southwark Cathedral.
