As Summer approaches, what better than to enjoy a game of tennis in SE1's largest green space? If you need to hone your skills, the Friends of Archbishops Park has a comprehensive programme of tennis coaching for all ages.
On Saturday and Sunday mornings there are different time slots for different groups. Currently 10am Saturdays is for young children from about 4 to 6, whilst 10am Sundays is 7 plus. There is an adult session on Sundays at 11am and a large parents and children session on Saturdays at 12 noon. There is also a Wednesday lunchtime session for adults. Most sessions cost £4 per hour or £2 per half hour, whilst the 12 noon Saturday session costs £1 per child.
The money for the equipment has been provided by the Waterloo Community Regeneration Trust. For more information, the coaches Karel and David can be contacted on 07817 090192 and 020 7261 9562 respectively.
The Friends also organise the free football coaching sessions provided by Fulham Football in the Community running 10am-12 noon on Saturdays for children and young people aged between 6 and 16. About 90 kids take part each week, , and new participants can just turn up and register. The scheme is entirely dependent on external funding so new contributions from local employers would be very welcome. £5,000 allows the Friends of Archbishop's Park to buys us about nine months of coaching. Ernst and Young and Body Shop have already assisted the programme.
