London SE1 website team

A search for a backpacker who was last seen on the isle of Skye five days ago is being scaled down. Police said there had been no trace of Dr Timothy Derrick who lives in Southwark Bridge Road.

The 40-year-old failed to check out of Sligachan Bunkhouse in the village of Sligachan on Thursday.

He was reported missing by the proprietor on Sunday afternoon after his possessions were discovered in the property.

A spokeswoman for Northern Constabulary said: "There has been no trace of Dr Derrick so far and the search is being scaled down."

Dr Derrick had arrived on the Isle of Skye on 12 August. He was wearing blue jeans and a cream jacket with black patches on the shoulders when last seen. It is understood that he had intended to travel to Edinburgh before returning home this week.
