Tesco opened its eighth branch in SE1 on Friday morning when the new Express store at the corner of New Kent Road and Harper Road welcomed its first customers.
To mark the opening of the new store, Tesco has given a donation of £500 to Walworth-based charity Stroke Care.
Representatives of Stroke Care were invited to cut a ribbon to formally open the shop.
"We are delighted to be able to support Stroke Care as they do such wonderful work for the local community," said store manager Ferial Fazarally.
She added: "My team and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new store and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community."
The store – which sells National Lottery tickets – is open seven days a week from 7am till 11pm.
The opening of the store brings the number of Tesco branches in SE1 to eight.
