London Gay Symphony Orchestra

The London Gay Symphony Orchestra's current season comes to an end with a performance of two of the most celebrated works of the last century – Ravel's Piano Concerto in G & The Planets by Gustav Holst.

This concert sees the debut of soloist Christian Ludlum who will be performing Ravel's notoriously difficult Piano Concerto in G.

LGSO will also welcome its new musical director and conductor, Christopher Braime.

Ravel's piano concerto in G was composed after his 1928 tour of America. After being introduced to America's indigenous music from none other than George Gershwin, this work carries the imprint of the jazz craze, which was very popular at the time. It was premiered in 1932 and is an effervescent romp including both jazzy, bluesy riffs and sensuous, lyrical passages.

After being introduced to astrology through a friend, Holst was inspired by the characteristics of the different planets in the solar system. The result of this inspiration was the seven-movement masterpiece, The Planets Suite. It is one of the most recognized pieces from the last century and combines the forces of a very large orchestra.

Since the orchestra's inception in 1996, it has provided a supportive outlet for all sexualities performing major works by composers including Verdi, Shostakovich, Mozart and Borodin in venues across London. They have performed sell out concerts in Cadogan Hall, St John's Smith Square & the Royal Festival Hall and have worked recently with guest performers Sue Perkins and Simon Callow.
