To mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens the cathedral is hosting a day of special events.

A selection of Charles Dickens' letters, first editions and other artefacts from the collection of Lord Harris of Peckham will be on display all day.

From 12 noon to 4pm the Ancient Society of College Youths and Southwark Cathedral's bellringers are ringing a full peal.

In his journals, Charles Dickens recorded visits he made to the Ancient Society of College Youths in the bell tower of what was then St Saviour's church, now Southwark Cathedral.

After Choral Evensong (5.30pm) the cathedral is hosting a talk by Dickens biographer Claire Tomalin (6.30pm).
