St George's Day Celebration

A new satellite market stall for Lower Marsh will be unveiled in Waterloo on St George's Day.

The structure is being created by aberrant architecture and has been made possible by Waterloo's Portas Pilot status.

In designing the stall, aberrant took inspiration from "A Caveatt For the Citty Of London" - a 1598 work by Hugh Alley which includes illustrations of London markets. The illustrations depict totems showing the origins of the traders around them.

Lambeth's historical reputation as a magnet for unusual and uninhibited market traders will also be reflected in the design.

The stall will be officially unveiled opposite the Old Vic as part of a celebration of Englishness with performances from noon until 2pm and from 5pm to 7pm. All are invited.

The line-up includes performances from The Belles of London City, an all-female quartet of corseted morris dancers, and fortune telling with Mystic Timberlina.

Once unveiled the stall will act as performance space, signpost, market stall and office, and will be a regular sight around Waterloo.
