The infamous Parisian club Moulin Rouge provides the backdrop for Baz Luhrmann’s kaleidoscopic love story. Christian (Ewan McGregor) a British poet is plunged into the seedy, yet glamorous, Parisian underworld through his meeting of bohemian artist Toulouse-Lautrec and meets and falls in love with the eponymous club’s star Satine (Nicole Kidman).

The story of their ultimately doomed relationship is played out through pop songs, dreamlike settings, lush colour, blink-and-you-miss-it scene changes, turn of the century glitz and glamour, poet-in-a-garret-style-poverty and some outstanding and hilarious performances by the likes of Jim Broadbent. It’s a visual feast.
