With the coldest winter months approaching, Southwark Council is offering local residents a chance to keep their own pathways and footpaths clear with a free 5kg bag of salt.
Residents are welcome to collect a bag for an elderly neighbour or those unable to salt their own pavement to reduce the risk of ice.
Officers will also be armed with top tips on how to make to make the most of the salt this winter.
"Over the coming months, officers will be out with the new vehicles gritting Southwark's busiest roads," said Cllr Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for transport, environment and recycling.
"But we can't get to every street or pavement and so we hope residents will show real community spirit by claiming their free bag of salt, and helping all local people get on with their day-to-day lives, whatever the weather."
