Southwark actors support the Rose
Pastime with Good Company – the famous song by Henry VIII – lends its title to an evening of English and European theatre, interlaced with musical interludes. It takes place in the mysterious and magical setting of the Rose Theatre archeological excavations, near Shakespeare’s Globe.
The remains of the Rose, first excavated in 1989, are those of the oldest playhouse in London, built by Philip Henslowe in 1587- and imagined for the screen in the Oscar-winning film, Shakespeare in Love.
Words by Shakespeare, Marlowe, Beaumont & Fletcher, Moliere, Webster, Goldoni, Middleton, Greene, Lope de Vega and, for the first time on this side of the Atlantic, Andrew Harris.
