Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) is calling on local people to come out in force and underline the strength of the community for what promises to be the biggest street party the area has ever seen. The event which is planned for Sunday, 18 June forms part of 'The Great Get Together', a nationwide event inspired by MP Jo Cox and marks the first anniversary of her murder.
The Great Get Together has taken on a new significance given the terrorist attack at London Bridge and this event will reflect the strength, friendship and resilience of the community groups, businesses and residents in the area.
An extravaganza of food, music, entertainment and competitions including bake offs, bark offs and wacky races will all form a day for all the family.
Star attractions will include a dog show, urban farm, wacky races, pop-up fitness classes, a kid's zone with Punch and Judy and maypole dancing. A mouth-watering selection of food from around the world will be available, including a Feast on the Street from eco-chef Tom Hunt (pre-booking essential).
This will be complimented by a great drinks choice including from cocktail superstars Bompas and Parr and others. Also unmissable will be live music over four stages, from a variety of artists, and including jazz, funk, classical and country.
Music will come from SuperGlad, Corsica Studios, Pandemonium Drummers (from the London 2012 Olympic Games), Purcell School, the NHS Choir and many, many more. In addition there will be comedy from local talent ahead of their scheduled appearance at the Edinburgh Festival, and scenes re-enacted from selected Shakespeare works.
Funds are still required to cover the cost of hosting the event. If you can help support The Great Get Together Bankside and make a difference with a donation of £5 today, simply text "BOST17 £5" to 70070. You can make a further donation online.
