As part of the 100 Ideas series, Lift, Aluna Time, and Ahh have three big ideas for London and will present them to the audience who will then be able to explore these ideas in a choice of three interactive workshop sessions.
This 40metre landmark will be truly sustainable - built from recycled glass and lit by the power of the Thames's tides. Aluna will generate its own revenue to support itself by selling the Moons renewable energy to the grid. "Aluna" the Kogi of Colombia word for light/spirit/meaning will chart the Moon's wax and wane, its rise and set, and the tides' ebb and flow, bringing together art and science in an accessible ever-changing light sculpture.
The Moon has been important to religions and cultures around the world since the dawn of time and many of London's festivals are timed by the Moon. Aluna will mean something to all ages, faiths and cultures and is much more than a monumental timepiece it will be a public sculpture, visitor attraction, centre for learning and spiritual escape all within sight of the Meridian. Aluna's team are looking to realise this multicultural symbol for London in time for London 2012.
