At present 1.15 million people in the UK are directly affected by eating disorders and 10per cent of these are male. Ever since the mid 2006 the tabloids a have been full of articles about public figures battling eating disorders. The more the general public see these the less sensitised they may become.
The event aims to raise public awareness of eating disorders, how to identify them and where to get help. The fashion show is anti Size 0, with regular sized models helping to send the message that we should keep a healthy perspective of our body weight.
Obsession with bodyweight is particularly common among young women who feel pressured to live up to magazine images of wafer thin models; but the problem can affect men and older people too.
The catwalk show includes collections from Joy (Bankside) London, Skyetshooki Designs and Chipo. Talented musicians David Simon, Josh Winiberg and Sheila Lord will present live performances. The evening will end with cocktails and an opportunity to mingle with the acts, hosts, sponsors and the charity representatives.
